VFW Runway Correspondent Diaries | Opening Gala

Vancouver Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 kicked off with an Opening Gala on Tuesday, September 18th at the FiveSixty Night Club. Britta Bisig, our VFW Runway Correspondent, reports on the highlights of the fabulous bash attended by designers, models, industry professionals, performers, media and fashion addicts alike. “The best dressed in the city came out Tuesday night, September 18th, for the Opening Gala, celebrating the start of Vancouver Fashion Week Spring/Summer 201.  People lined the street in studded heels and dapper suits, anxiously waiting outside the FiveSixty Night Club to get a special sneak peak of some of the designs being featured this week. Vancouver brought a massive variety of fashion out to this event: everything from floor-length gowns to cocktail dresses, animal prints to feathers were being shown off. It didn’t hurt having a Rolls-Royce and a Ferrari sitting out front to make you feel like a real fashionable VIP.

Inside, entertainment including Chloé Morgan, ACTORS, Champagne Republic, Warren Dean Flandez and Jojo Zolina pulled off stellar performances. All of our performers not only sang their hearts out, but looked fashionable doing it. Lead singer of Champagne Republic joked that she may have not made the right wardrobe choice, as she kept adjusting her dress: she looked fantastic either way, in a cute LBD with sheer shoulders.  If there’s one thing we can conclude about Vancouver style, it is that fashion here is extremely diverse. At this highly anticipated fashion event, people stepped it up and added their own personal touches to their look; the end result was a beautiful mosaic of colours, prints and textures. Imagine what we can expect to see at the shows in the coming days!

One of the most intriguing aspects of the night was the group of models, who roamed the floor, allowing anyone to take photos with the featured designs. This was a great chance to get up close and really see the amount of detail that goes into these pieces.  Just stunning! Are you excited yet for what is to come this week?”
