In Bed with Leroy | VFW
|
Dear Readers, Every Thursday, Yours Truly, ventures into the sleepy city to try to find you something hidden, something underneath the covers of our bed, our home; Vancouver. And, if you haven’t noticed yet, I love diversity. There is page after page of my devotion to diversity at my blog: http://hausofkolbee.tumblr.com . But it seems Vancouver has been catching onto to the progressively fiercer fever. We have got the taste for it. Literally. Vancouver is this hub of good affordable Sushi, Malaysian down the block, cheap Vietnamese Pho, then a midnight donair when you just came back from the wrap party of your friends straight to DVD movie. Maybe a Thursday at the Greek place, some good Italian on the Drive, Vancouver; our bed, is a cultural melting pot. So, it seems right that Vancouver’s very own fashion week should treat their stage exactly the same. Home of Hollywood North and our very own Vancouver Fashion Week, Vancouver has some good “feng shui”. Because these coming weeks starting on September 19th, Vancouver will be the resting place for some die-hard fashion fanatics thanks to a little fashion show happening at the Chinese Cultural Centre. And this fashion show, will be “multicultural-modern”. Between the sheets are a bevy of talented, passionate, devoted artists coming in to show their exculsive designs down our Vancouver Fashion Week runway. These designers definitely wouldn’t put you to sleep though. They are what dreams are made up of. Many are inspiring stories like Johan Coetzee who, hailing from South Africa, came from humble beginnings of graduating from North West School of Design to becoming a globally recognized brand with a roster of wedding dresses, evening gowns and eccentric ensembles that seem to encapsulate the whimsy of Christian Dior with Marc Jacob’s trendy quirkiness. The ladies of the week, are no plain Jane’s either. Celebrity favourites like Misty Greer, with her quirky pin-up inspired accesories, actually clothed clientele like Lady Gaga before. Partnering with Scout Boutique previously, this time around, Greer has decided to fly solo. She debuts a brand new collection for her solo line “Trunk Show”. If you love Mickey Mouse and Monsters, you certainly don’t want to miss the brainchild that got the Gaga stamp of approval. There’s also the label Goldie London by British native Michelle Goldie who started with just a cozy shop in the legendary Portobello Market to hustling her way to get her wearably fashion-forward designs featured at massive chains like TopShop. Her clothing, jewelry and leather accesories are coveted by the British band Pixie Lott or even Florench Welch of Florence + The Machine. Also, representing Vancouver with an English Flair is designer Dominique and her “fascinating” line of hats called Hive Mind Millenery. Her bespoken fascinators and fedoras are fit for a royal wedding. Who knew a graduate of the Oxford School of Architecture has such an eye for what covers your eyes? So, Vancouver? How is that for ‘Around the World in 80 Dresses’? This season for Vancouver Fashion Week will undoubtedly be unpredictable, surprising, but most importantly a global step for Vancouver towards the future. This could be one small step for an astronaut, but for the men and woman of Vancouver, it is one fierce strut for mankind. Try to take a walk in these heels. Tickets to this entertaining extravaganza starts at just $25 and are available at http://vanfashionweek.com Hope to see you there! With love and style, |
