Flashback Friday | Angels from the Past

We all look forward to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show where the sexy and curvaceous angels walk the catwalk in elaborate, bright, and flirtatious lingerie decked out with hot pink lips, and sometimes even their signature angel wings. The first runway show was showcased in 1995 and was an instant it and thus, has grown to be the elaborate past time entertainment it is now. The Victoria’s Secret Angels are a symbol of glitz and glamour but have they always been?

They may not have always been called ‘angels’ either, and they definitely didn’t always fly away to exotic shoots for their elaborate and sensuous bikini/lingerie shots. In the 1970′s, the pre-angel era, was a little less glam and a little more natural.

Here are some images from a 1979 Victoria’s Secret catalogue, showing a vast difference between today’s angels. Obviously, the style of lingerie has changed immensely, but so have the backdrops, makeup and hairstyles of the models. It is interesting to imagine how the big hair and bold lips with those luxurious curls came to evolve from the 70′s classic models. Just another astonishing flashback in the times of fashion; sometimes timeless.
