1. Natalie Portman marries Benjamin Millepied… in a Dior dress?

Actress Natalie Portman married now-husband Benjamin Millepied last Saturday in a private Jewish ceremony. The event was held at a residence in Big Sur, California. Although the press was not allowed at the event, Portman’s dress was reported to be 1950’s style, full-skirted and nipped at the waist. Because of her recent history of collaborations with Dior, onlookers have speculated that her wedding dress was made by the fashion house too.

2. Victoria Beckham launches hand-cut glasses collection

Victoria Beckham and Cutler & Gross have partnered to create a six-piece collection of glasses. The designer reveals that her latest line of eyewear came out of a personal struggle to find glasses “that suit [her] or that [she] particularly likes”. The line ranges from heavy pieces with thicker frames, to lighter pieces with aviator frames. Each piece is handcrafted in Italy, and will retail from $410 – $530 in January next year.

3. Rachel Zoe to appear at Vancouver’s Holt Renfrew

Celebrity stylist-turned-fashion-designer Rachel Zoe will be making an appearance at Vancouver’s Holt Renfrew this Thursday at 12:30pm to introduce her 2012 fall/winter clothing collection. Zoe describes her line as “rock n’ roll” and “classic and glamorous”. “It’s all about London street style of the ‘60s, infused with the glamour and ease of the ‘70s,” she tells the Vancouver Sun.

4. Marilyn Monroe’s contribution to fashion history, revisited

50 years after her death, the world is paying tribute to the iconic Marilyn Monroe. The new book “Marilyn in Fashion”, co-authored by Christopher Nickens and George Zeno, offers readers a glimpse into the personal side of Monroe’s relationship with fashion. In the book, the style icon is said to have hated the big skirts of the 1950s, and much preferred body-hugging garments. She also made wigs fashionable again just prior to her death in 1962.
