Discovering Designers in Vancouver

“June Hunter Images” – by Artist/Photographer June Hunter Dear Readers, I’m sure I loved listening to the Matisse paintings coaxing me. The dramatic strings used in the fantastic “Fifth Night” Film Exhibit was tense music in my ears. But what would surprise me most is that one of the most gorgeous and organic pieces I would find calling me that day was in the gift shop. It was this jewel of a centrepiece. A vivid image of this rosy blossom, the petals laquered in resin and capsuled in a bed of sterling silver; a creation created by June Hunter. Hunter, a photographer of over 40 years, appreciates the small universes within our sometimes harsh and realistic world. With her English roots and bohemian background, June’s love affair with nature and botany sparked a journey where she would escape to those small universes and captures the breathtaking images that inspires her. June Hunter and I also had something in common, our love for our area of East Vancouver. If you look closely, maybe you notice June Hunter’s art captures the brilliant and distinct hues of everything from rust, cracked concrete, crows, Commercial Drive and even her Scottish Fold, Edgar; all native to her, well I guess, our backyard. With her art receiving press from CBC radio and television, House and Home, Western Living; just to name a few, it seems everyone understands June’s vision of how natural can be beautiful. Decay can be elegant. Aging will always be a graceful growth and anything and everything, no matter how big or how small, can be exquisite. Ever the entrepreneur, June Hunter’s images are then made into large Warhol-sized panels, tiles or even neckalces and charm bracelets. You can find her images in any Hyatt Hotel, at the Granville Island Market, Harmony Arts Festival, Plush and at her Etsy site http://www.etsy.com/shop/junehunter . You can also find her work at Dr. Vigari Gallery, Van Dusen Gallery Gift Shop and at the YVR airport. With love and style, Leroy Wan |
