VFW Designer Profile: Mackenzie Jones Featuring Danielle Cameron

Megan Mackenzie Jones is a multi-media artist working in jewellery and alternative fashion. She has lived her life all over Alberta and is now a Calgary based artist. After an extended trip driving across Canada Megan learned to appreciate the beauty in life. Flora and fauna, as well as memory and nostalgia are her main inspirations. Through travel, interaction and life experience she continues to learn about herself and the world around her and strives to translate these experiences into the objects she creates.

I had the pleasure to meet and chat with Mackenzie Jones last season when she showed at Vancouver Fashion Week S/S 2012. Her S/S 2012 Collection reflects power, strength and survival in the wild. Mackenzie is very sweet, very well-spoken and extremely down to earth person. Last season’s collection was inspired by the mountains, the fresh air and the open space. We are on the edge of our seats for Mackenzie’s collection launch tonight.

She also participated in the 10th Annual ArtaWEARness with her piece The Fatal Seduction to Ascension, which will be continued on to be shown at the 8th Annul Wearable Art Gala in Kelowna, and Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week. Through the wearable art performanceAvant-Garb Megan has exhibited at the Art Gallery of Calgary, EPCOR center for the Performing Arts, Art Central and the Marion Nicoll Gallery.

“Flora and fauna, memory, beauty, romance and storytelling are interwoven themes that inform my practice. Through an ongoing obsession with material I attempt to fulfill my fascination with personal history, symbol, myth, paradox and imagination. I am driven to satisfy a need to empower myself and others through inhabitation of ornamentation.”

Mackenzie Jones shows tonight at 8:45 P.M at Vancouver Fashion Week F/W 2012. This season’s shows will be held at the Chinese Cultural Centre. Check our website here for tickets, venue location, show schedule and more.
