Tuxedo Chic
By Liz Penafuerte
Now who ever said you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day can now be classified as out dated. Fashion has always been about finding and setting your own trend, but who knew we would find it in our boyfriend’s closet??
Remember when Angelina Jolie first embarked on her own take of men’s suit? I think she wore one to the Oscars in 2004. Since then, we’ve been spotting a trend in the tuxedo jacket. Yves Saint Laurent displayed a beautifully tailored and versatile tuxedo ensemble that takes any woman from daytime chic to night-time diva in seconds!
Sometimes we’re afraid to work a little color into our outfits for fear that it might get dirty. Imagine a world where everyone is rocking the black head to toe, every day, all day….Then you would have all these frowned faces heading to work or on dates, leading to the collapse of the world. Okay, maybe that was dramatic. But IMAGINE!
If you ask me ANY woman can rock this look as the cut of a tuxedo jacket is forgiving on all shapes and sizes. If you fall in the petite category, opt for a tuxedo cape jacket. This exquisite, one of a kind number features a double-breasted pocket with a shawl collar that elongates your neck, while the fitted, one-button vest-jacket enhances your waistline.
Depending on the cut, some tuxedo jackets feature a double button, when paired with a leopard print chiffon top and any pair of black cropped pants; it can enhance your figure by extending your waist line.
For full figured divas like myself, I find wearing a cashmere crew neck tee underneath a long double button blazer gives the appearance of a longer silhouette. Belt it or pair it with you favorite skinnies and eye catching pumps and you are ready for anything! Leaving your blazer open helps hide those unwanted, extra curves (if you know what I mean!).
Next time you embark on a color mission, do some background your research on trends and styles. Bring a close girlfriend so she can give you her most honest opinion. Don’t be afraid to ROCK THAT WHITE!
Until next time,
Miss Liz
