Shut it all down! Fashion’s Night Out
If you happen to be in New York City or Milan on September 8th, wondering why the streets are more crowded than usual, it’s because of Fashion’s Night Out (FNO). Back for a third successful year, FNO is one of the fashion industry’s most extravagant events, hosting eight nights of afterhours shopping, free swag, and a meet and greet with celebrities, models, stylists and designers. This event will take place in over 250 U.S cities, as well as internationally in cities such as Milan, London, and Sydney.
The mastermind behind the project is Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine. In 2009 when the U.S was still in the depths of the recession, Ms. Wintour decided to give the fashion industry an economic boost. The event appealed to a larger demographic, and encouraged consumers who were not used to shopping at designer stores a chance to mingle with fashion A-listers, thus maximizing traffic in retail stores.
Last year, FNO drew an impressive list of attendees such as Blake Lively, Ashley Tisdale and Bar Refaeli. This year, FNO promises to be an even bigger event with more locations and more celebrity appearances. Even though details are kept under the radar, Vogue Daily is giving its readers a behind the scenes sneak peak.
FNO is sure to take its visitors on a whirlwind of clothes, shoes, pampering, and beauty products. Among the designers attending the event are Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Dior, Michael Kors, Badgley Mischka, and Alexander Wang. Michael Kors is making an appearance at Bergdorf and it is rumoured that Oscar de la Renta will be signing his latest book “Face of Fashion.”
Excited yet? There’s more! The talented cast of Glee is lending their voices to the event. They have created an exclusive video which has already been aired on Fox.
So get ready to strut! If you are heading down south for this fabulous event, be sure to check for accommodations. Hotels have begun preparation months in advance to ensure that guests will receive the best accommodation their city has to offer. If you can’t make it you, don’t fret. With over 200 e-tailers online, you can shop and participate from the comfort of your home. For a complete listing of events, locations, designers and more, check out the FNO official website.
