Peter Jensen – Featured Photographer
Peter Jensen is a local Vancouver photographer who has been hard at work throughout Vancouver Fashion Week 2011. Here is a short excerpt written by none other, followed by some of his work and contact information.
“4:05 am Monday morning. I’ve been up for over 18 hours and still have work to do. For most everyone else fashion week is over, but for me I’ve still got so many pictures to edit through. I probably shot over 3,000 in just 5 days, most of them are garbage.
Got to send out some emails and images before I hit the sack. The editors from the Toronto magazine will be in their offices in less than 2 hours and I want to have some pictures for them. Also want to send out some emails and pictures to a couple designers, see if I can sell any. In this business it seems like speed is everything. Everybody wants pictures asap. You snooze, you loose.
Shot some nice stuff these past few days, shot some bad stuff too. Have to keep the big picture in mind. These past few days are just part of the constant push you need to force yourself to do. At times it can seem pretty hopeless, especially when you’re surrounded by your competitors. Its a good thing I like what I do.
Had a total stranger come up to me today and ask me if I was Peter Jensen. Said he saw my runway shots and was really impressed. Never had that happen before. It was nice.
4:18 am. Have to get back to work. Only one day of pictures left to edit. I like my backstage pictures this season. I enjoy trying to capture the energy and frantic excitement that goes on behind the scenes. Maybe its because you don’t see as many of those types of images. Most of the focus is usually on the runway. Wonder if there’s any money in back-of-the-house images. Always looking for new ways to shoot, new ways to capture how I feel, how others feel. Therein lies the challenge: how to establish your reputation, yet always pushing yourself to re-invent what you do.” – Peter Jensen
